Daniela Salvemini, Ph.D., is William Beaumont Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience and founding director of the Institute for Translational Science at Saint 浪花直播 University. Salvemini received her B.Sc., in pharmacology from Kings College, London, and her Ph.D., in pharmacology from the University of London under the mentorship of the late Nobel Laureate Professor Sir John Vane. She pursued postdoctoral studies at the William Harvey 浪花直播 Institute in London with Sir John Vane and then Monsanto in the Department of Discovery Pharmacology with Philip Needleman, Ph.D. in St 浪花直播. Before joining Saint 浪花直播 University, Salvemini spent 15 years in the private sector where she led drug discovery and development efforts on novel analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Salvemini鈥檚 research interest is in understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in neuropathic pain and the discovery of novel non-opioid-based targets for therapeutic interventions. Her highly translational approach has resulted in the development of multiple novel therapies that have entered clinical trials. She serves on numerous committees and boards including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Study Section (National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA); National Cancer Institute (NCI); National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), NIH/NINDS External Consultant Board, Preclinical Screening Platform for Paind and board member of the United States Association for the Study of Pain.
