2011
- With seed funding from the BF Charitable Foundation, Dr. DuBois edited a narrative symposium on conflicting interests in medicine. The symposium includes personal stories from 10 physicians on the impact of financial relationships to medical research or practice, with commentary articles from leading scholars. Three past Bander Fellows, Govind Nagaldinne, Anthony Mikulec, and Salvador Cruz, all contributed personal narratives. Elena Kraus co-authored a commentary article.
2009
- AMA Virtual Mentor Special Issue on was edited by two medical student affiliates of the Bander Center, Nathaniel Brown and Jeffrey Dueker. The issue explores how the business of medicine shapes medical student's decisions on specialty choice.
- With seed funding from the BF Foundation and an NIH R21, Dr. DuBois, Elena Kraus, and others are studying 120 cases of wrongdoing in medical research and practice. The project will identify the environmental factors associated with wrongdoing, and will inform educational and prevention efforts.
- Bander Essay Contest in Medical Business Ethics was co-sponsored by the Bander Center and AMA's Virtual Mentor until 2013. The first 2 prize winning essays include "Reforming the Carrot-and-stick of Health Care Payment Systems," by Amanda J. Redig, M.D., Ph.D., and by Thomas Heyne, M.D., M.St.
