Senior Legacy Symposium

The Senior Legacy Symposium allows the Saint ÀË»¨Ö±²¥ University community — including faculty, administration, staff, students and alumni — to see the academic possibilities and contributions of SLU's graduating seniors.

Each year, graduating students from academic units across the University present research and papers, perform creative works, and share internship and service-learning experiences. In doing so, they leave behind a major contribution to their field of study and to the University.

2024 Symposium

The 17th annual Senior Legacy Symposium will take place from 2-5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 in the Busch Student Center, with a reception to follow from 5-6 p.m.

Each undergraduate department/program is invited to select up to three student projects for presentation at this year’s symposium. This year, student participation will take the form of a traditional poster presentation, a creative presentation (with limited spots available), an individual oral presentation, or an interdisciplinary research panel in which students share information about their projects and engage in dialogue with students from other fields. Students will also be able to share project details, upload complete artifacts of their work, or record presentations to be featured on the Senior Legacy Symposium website.

In addition to the presentation at the live event (poster, creative presentation or interdisciplinary panel), nominated students are encouraged to submit project details for inclusion on the 2024 Senior Legacy Symposium website. See below for the various website presentation formats.

Abstract Submission

Students submit only an abstract of their project to be uploaded to the Legacy Symposium site.

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

Abstracts should be limited to 250 words. The abstract should summarize the project, including outcomes if applicable. In addition, the abstract should clearly state the significance of the project in terms that can be understood by a general scholarly audience and clearly convey the student’s original analytical, critical or creative contribution to the discipline.

Full Artifact Submission

Students upload a static image of their project along with an abstract (e.g., .pdf version of a poster presentation/paper or pictures of a creative artifact).

Guidelines for Full Artifact Submission

Students are advised to be sensitive to intellectual property concerns when uploading images and any other copyrighted content, and must agree to have their work displayed on the Legacy website. Maximum size is 1GB per submission, with a maximum of five separate artifacts.

In addition to the artifact itself, students should also submit an abstract of their work (250-word limit). The abstract should summarize the project, including outcomes if applicable. In addition, the abstract should clearly state the significance of the project in terms that can be understood by a general scholarly audience and clearly convey the student’s original analytical, critical, or creative contribution to the discipline.

Recorded Oral/Poster/Creative Presentation

Students create and upload a short video recording of their project to be posted along with their abstract on their project page of the Senior Legacy Symposium site (approximately 5-8 minutes).

Guidelines for Recorded Presentation

Recordings should be less than 1GB. If recordings exceed this amount, please email a link to your recording to legacy@slu.edu.  Students should record in a well-lighted, quiet location.
