First-Year Experience Leadership Positions
Saint 浪花直播 University鈥檚 First-Year Experience leaders help students through their transition to college by serving as resources and role models. In addition to serving incoming SLU students and their families, these positions are a great leadership development opportunity for you and are, of course, fun.
SLU 101 Leaders
SLU 101 leaders are a select group of students who assist incoming freshmen, transfers and their families during the summer SLU 101 program. SLU 101 leaders facilitate small group discussions, share information through educational presentations and activities, assist in the advising and registration process, serve on panels for students or parents/families, coordinate evening student social activities and much more. Applicants must be available for all training and program dates. This is an in-person program for summer 2024.
Oriflamme Leaders
Oriflamme Leaders help create a successful Fall Welcome experience for first-year students. Leaders
serve as mentors, assist with move-in and lead small groups of first-year students
in discussions and activities along with other social and educational activities.
They also support first-year students in the transition process and serve as a resource
to incoming students and their families. Applicants must be able to attend all aspects
of Oriflamme training and Fall Welcome events. This is an in-person program for fall
2024.
International Ambassador
International ambassadors help facilitate a successful international student orientation for spring, summer, and fall semesters by assisting with airport pick-ups, move-in for international students, and leading orientation activities. International ambassadors build relationships with international students throughout the year through a variety of activities and also serve as conversation partners to English language learners. Applicants must be available for training and program dates and requirements.

Transfer Mentors
Transfer mentors connect transfer students to the SLU community through activities and initiatives in the first couple weeks of the fall semester. Applicants must be full-time students who transferred to SLU before the spring 2024 semester. Transfer mentors also serve as Oriflamme leaders and assist with Fall Welcome. Interested students should select the Oriflamme leader position on the FYE leader application if interested in serving new transfer students as transfer mentors.

Before you apply, read the above position descriptions carefully. Make sure you understand the expectations and are available for all training and program dates. This is a general application for all of the outlined FYE leadership roles. Attending an info session will assist in understanding the positions directly from students who have held them, as well as understanding the application and selection process. You are encouraged to attend an info session to gain insight and advice on the interview process.
Application Steps
Complete the online application that includes responding to two short essay questions. Make sure you submit by the deadline; no late applications will be accepted. The application will close at 9 a.m. Central Time on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024. This deadline is during the first week of spring semester classes, so mark your calendar to complete the application on time.
Interview Process
Group interviews will be held on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024. In your application, you will select your group interview day and time preferences, which will be confirmed via email a few days before the group interview process. The group interviews will be hosted in person in the Busch Student Center. An alternative interview option will be available for students studying abroad during spring 2024.
We will primarily look at your communication and interaction skills in the group interview process. After group interviews, we will determine which candidates will be invited to an individual interview with questions more specific to that role.

- Jan. 24, 2024: Email notifications sent about assigned group interview time
- Jan. 26, 2024: Group interviews
- Feb. 4 - 12, 2024: Individual interviews for selected candidates
- Feb. 16, 2024: Selection email notifications sent
Considerations for Students Studying Abroad
Students studying abroad in the spring will follow the same selection timeline this year since we will provide an alternative interview via Zoom.
