Division of Pediatric Critical Care

The Saint 浪花直播 University Division of Pediatric Critical Care provides state-of-the-art medical management for critically ill children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children鈥檚 Hospital. There are one and often two board certified pediatric intensivists providing constant bedside care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The pediatric intensivists also help provide emergency care in other hospital locations.

Our Role

Our role in the PICU centers on the delivery of state-of-the-art life support systems and medications for children after major surgical procedures and during life-threatening illnesses. The physicians and nurse practitioners of the Division establish lead a multi professional team composed of nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, pharmacists and others to identify and achieve daily goals of care.

Pediatric Critical Care Training

The Division, as part of an academic medical center, combines patient care with our mission to educate all manner of healthcare professional trainees. Our clinical workload helps provide educational opportunities to pediatric residents, surgery residents, emergency medicine fellows and residents, pediatric cardiology fellows, nurses, medical students, respiratory therapists and pharmacists.

Events

Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS)

PFCCS is a major resource for those interested in learning how to recognize critical illness and initiate care for the critically ill pediatric patient. It will also serve as a valuable education tool for those entering the field of pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric critical care, and disaster response medicine.

Course Purpose:

  • To prepare physicians, physician-assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, transport teams, and EMT/paramedics for the first 24 hours of pediatric critical care until transferred or appropriate critical care consultation is obtained.
  • To prepare non-intensivists to manage the acute deterioration of critically ill pediatrics patients.
  • To prepare pediatric, emergency medicine, and surgical house staff for Pediatric critical care medicine.
